Bing Futch plays a dulcimer with 2 fretboards
While enjoying the wonderful music at the Will McLean Festival (www.willmclean.com ), my daughter had fallen asleep in my lap, which allowed me to stay for a new performer I had not heard before – Bing Futch, and his dulcimer with two fretboards. The instrument is amazing, the music is amazing, and Bing, himself, is so personable that you feel immediately accepted, and invited to share in the joy of the dulcimer.
Bing is located in Orlando, and plays all over Florida, as well as many music festivals around the USA. From my understanding, there are only 5 dulcimers like this in the world. One fretboard is tuned to the key of D, the other is tuned to the key of G.

This podcast includes a little blues action and then a song demo of “The Ballad of John Henry”, both in DAD tuning. Couple of notes: intermittent digital distortion on left side of frame is from re-using video tapes (cost-saver, bad move) and there are audio cameo appearances by the Loudest Cessna In The World and Sluefoot Sue, the cat who would be a balladeer.
